After a long wait of two years and almost one month after the release of
StarOffice's new version, OpenOffice.org has released the OpenOffice version 2.0.
The new version is available for download for Windows, Linux, and Solaris. The version for MAC is yet to come.

Features of the new version are:

Now, Microsoft and Yahoo will let their users instatnt message each other to take on IM rival AOL and newly arrived Google Talk. Under the agreement, Microsoft's MSN Messenger users will be able to exchange messages and voice call over the Internet with Yahoo Messenger subscribers starting in the second quarter of 2006.

Microsoft and yahoo will create a combined community of 275 million users will give the Google and AOl a tough fight. AOL is currently the market leader in the instant messaging space with a share of 56 percent.

In the season of acquisitions, Oracle Corp. has acquired the Innobase, an Open Source company which develops InnoDB, the transactional database technology that is distributed as part of the MySQL database.

Oracle’s executive vice president Charles Rozwat said “Oracle has long been a supporter of open-source software such as Linux and Apache, for database and middleware technology. Innobase is an innovative small company that develops open-source database technology".

This is Oracle's 11th acquisition this year which includes PeopleSoft and Siebel Systems.

How much space is enough for your e-mails? 1 GB, 2 GB, 30 GB or 1 TB?
If you store all the spams and all the useless forwards you get from
your friends, I don't think you need more than 2GB. But wait, there are
e-mail services which provide you more than 2.6 GB than that of Gmail.

30gigs is the e-mail service provider which boasts of providing 30 GB of e-mail space for free. But it is invite only e-mail service same as Gmail.

Mailnation is an e-mail service provider, which is providing 1 TB (yes, 1024GB) of space, almost 400 times greater than Gmail. The best part is, it is not invite only ;-)

But, I suspect will these services survive for long? What will happen if they close down their service one fine day and all your e-mails are gone. Let's wait and watch!
